IBA Gears Towards All-Star Season

The 2017-18 Intramural Basketball Association season has been in progress since December and it is nearing a close. Giving students the chance to exercise and participate in sports when they are not on the varsity team is beneficial to the players’ health and the overall cohesion of the school. Teaming up with your friends in order to compete in friendly games against opponents adds a dose of healthy competition. That competition can even venture beyond Tosa East when the finalists from East compete against the finalists from Wauwatosa West in a cross-town rivalry championship game.

The Squanchers have been on a win streak and even go as far as to take stats every game. With their record of 6-1, they are definitely a top contender for this years playoffs.

Zootopia has hit a rough patch. Sophomore, Jack Kluth, is not happy with the record of 2-4. Their last game was a tough loss against No Me Gusta Joaquin with a score of 44-15.

The Big Dunk Squad, led by head coach, Cole Tate, has had a pretty successful run so far with a record of 4-3.

The known trash-talkers of Faculty Team Garski have lived up to their legacy with a record of 2-0, but it seems that they might have some competition to the seemingly well versed Faculty Team Olsen. They are coming out of this competition with a record of 4-0, with their last game being a 36-21 win over Team Authentic Made.

Team Gluten Free Granola has also had a rough season with a current record of 0-6. It is clear that they will have to make some major cuts in the offseason in order to come out strong next year. They lost a close game, 14-15, to Team Authentic Made, so there is a chance that they could be improving, but it may be too little too late.

The Lava Lamp Boys, led by senior Adam Schell, have been having a great run as well this season. They have a record of 6-1 and do not plan on losing anytime soon.

No Me Gusta Joaquin has had a mediocre season with a current record of 3-3. Head coach, senior Abe Murphy, has defied expectations and set the bar high for the playoffs.

The One Win Wonders are truly living up to their name with a current standing of 1-6. Though, it has been reported that senior Jeff Mason is definitely an underrated player. It is too bad that his last season had to be that of unfortunate losses. Maybe there is a chance that it can be turned around during the playoffs.

Reg, captained by junior Max Finco, has a record of 3-4 and is looking for revenge in the playoffs.

Team 7 has pushed the unspoken boundaries and has some girls on their team. Seniors Melina Paul and Cassidy Kratochvil have proven to be unique assets to their team and have helped to contribute to the 3-4 record.

The Torn ACL’s, led by junior Michael Erickson, have come out on top with a record of 5-3.

The 2017-18 IBA season has been off to a great start and with playoffs just around the corner, the teams have been preparing. It will be exciting to see who emerges on top both at Tosa East and in the matchup against the teams at Tosa West. The crosstown rivalry game will be held at East on March 9th with tip off at 7:30. The starting lineup includes senior Dominic Pitzen, juniors Max Finco and Dylan Brown and seniors Cameron Holton and Eddie Pessefall.
